                                                        Isle of Mull

ISLAND, starring Natalie Press (MY SUMMER OF LOVE), Colin Morgan (MERLIN) and Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer (TIDELAND, TUMBLEWEEDS) will have its World Premiere on Sunday 20 February at the Glasgow Film Festival.

A psychological drama based on the acclaimed novel by Jane Rogers, ISLAND was directed by Elizabeth Mitchell and Brek Taylor who combined their diverse experience in film development and theatre to write the screenplay for their debut feature.
The producers achieved an ambitious shoot on a low budget, filming on location of the Isle of Mull and attracting a stellar cast including Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer, Natalie Press and Colin Morgan, best known as BBC’s MERLIN, in his feature film debut.
A haunting tale of retribution and redemption, ISLAND tells the story of Nikki Black (Natalie Press), a young woman scarred by a lifetime in care who decides to confront and kill the mother (Janet McTeer) who abandoned her as a baby. She traces her mother to a remote Scottish island and embarks on a journey of revenge, but discovers upon arrival that she has a brother (Colin Morgan). Conflicted by feelings of betrayal and kinship, Nikki becomes compelled to force her own hand with terrifying consequences.
ISLAND will be released by Soda Pictures as part of the New British Cinema Quarterly (NBCQ) in April 2011. The initiative is designed to nurture British filmmakers by taking original and distinctive films from the major festivals and touring them to reach audiences around the UK.  Past films released as part of NBCQ include Bifa-nominee BRILLIANTLOVE and Michael Powell Award Winner SKELETONS
